Description
The company "Cantina del Tufaio", a sort of family business, was founded in 1994 from small local producers, which gave their vineyards, characterized by plants of Malvasia Nostrale, Chirichetto (Grechetto) and yellow Trebbiano to this wine-cellar. These vineyards participate to the production of the wine Tufaio –Zagarolo Doc. This company is located in the heart of the Zagarolo Area, in a very panoramic position. It consists of a rural house with a cellar, which was built from the Loreti Family at the end of the XIX century, on the ruins of an ancient roman building and of a cave, excavated in the tuff, with a depth of 20 metres and a constant temperature of 12.3°C. This cellar has been restored. Now there is a space dedicated to tasting, where if requested, the owner teaches visitors shortly sparkling wines, other type of wines and shows the techniques used to produce sparkling wines.
Toilettes for handicapped persons will be built very soon. Within the same period will be created a museum on rural tools. Visitors have to see the cave where it is preserved the sparkling wine produced with a classic method.
It is possible to visit the wine-cellar individually or in groups (up to 15-20 persons) and in English, to taste and buy products in packages very useful for the transport.
